People with developmental disabilities can benefit in many ways from music therapy treatment. Studies show that people with ID/DD can develop cognitive, social, and physical abilities through music-based interventions with a board-certified music therapist. Most clients will respond favorably to musical experiences, even when cognition is low and the client may be non-verbal or non-vocal. Clients benefit from increased movement, social interaction, vocalizing and singing together. The social support and integration clients experience through music-based interventions can have profound positive affects of a clients overall wellbeing.
